Archives Display: Phi Beta Kappa at 75

Monday's initiation of new Phi Beta Kappa members will mark 75 years of PBK at St. Kate's. Phi Beta Kappa is the oldest academic honor society in the United States. Our chapter, Gamma of Minnesota, was installed on May 17, 1938. This was Sr. Antonia McHugh's birthday. The date was fitting as it was Sr. Antonia's hard work that made St. Kate's the first Catholic institution to receive a Phi Beta Kappa charter.

To commemorate the anniversary, Phi Beta Kappa items from the archives, including the charter and installation program, are on display in the Library.  These and other materials related to the chapter's founding are also available online as part of the University's Digital Collections.
