Nov. 21 RefWorks workshop canceled

Unfortunately we have to cancel the RefWorks workshop scheduled for November 21.

There may be workshop opportunities in the Spring, so keep an eye out for those.

And, as always, if you need help using RefWorks, Ask a Librarian. We'd be glad to help you.

RefWorks Users: No more Group Code!

As of now, logging into your RefWorks account is easier!

The beloved St. Kate's Group Code is no longer required for off-campus access -- just log in using your personal username and password (the one you chose when you created your account).

Creating a NEW RefWorks account WILL require either a Group Code or being on-campus. RefWorks will ensure that all logins are unique, so no further access code will be required.

For now, logging into Write-N-Cite 4 still requires either the St. Kate's Group Code or the authentication login code that is given when you download WNC. With a future upgrade, the need for the Group Code will be eliminated.

RefWorks Workshops

RefWorks is a citation manager that can help keep you organized and create bibliographies when you are writing papers. When you find articles in a database, you click a button to send all of their citation information to your RefWorks account. When you have gathered all of the citations you will use in your paper, you click a button and choose a citation style, and RefWorks formats your bibliography. RefWorks accounts are available to all St. Kate's students and can save you hours of time and lots of energy.

Want to know more? Attend a RefWorks workshop in Room 110 of the St. Paul campus:
  • Already have an account? Attend Tuesday, Feb.12, at 5:00 pm Register here
  • Beginner? Attend Tuesday, Feb. 26th, at 5:00 pm. Register here
If you cannot attend one of these classes, but would still like to learn how to use RefWorks, you can register here for a one-on-one appointment.

RefWorks not exporting from FirstSearch

Exporting references from FirstSearch database into RefWorks has recently been discontinued by OCLC, distributors of FirstSearch. No reason is known why OCLC chooses not to support RefWorks (or other citation management systems), but hopefully this service will be restored in the near future.

RefWorks 2.0 now available

RefWorks users now have the option of using the newer 2.0 interface, featuring improved navigation and a newer, nifty look.

Just log into your new RefWorks account as usual, then click on the link in the upper right corner for "Refworks 2.0." You will have access to all the citations in your Refworks database. From Refworks 2.0, you can switch back to the traditional interface by clicking "Refworks Classic" in the upper right corner. Make sure you save any new work before switching between the two interfaces.

Our plan is to switch to 2.0 as the default in Fall 2010, so you may want to begin to get used to it now. Guides will be available by the end of the summer. Questions? Call/email/IM a librarian.
