The Scream by Edvard Munch

One of the four versions of The Scream, the iconic painting by Norwegian artist Edvard Munch, sold at auction for $119,922,500 on May 2 in New York. According the the Associated Press, the sale at Sotheby's will fund a new museum in Norway.

The Scream was painted in 1895 as part of a series that explored "life, love, and death." The image has become part of pop culture with many take-offs and reproductions.
